If there's 3 tuners then I would imagine you'll be able to record 3 channels, but you would either have to watch one of the shows being recorded or watch a previously recorded show. If there is no 4th tuner then you can't watch a fourth channel.

When I have all resolutions enabled the TiVo selects 720p for SD content. If you enable only 576p and 1080i then it chooses to output SD at 1080i. You can't seem to get it to choose 576p output unless you disable both HD resolutions.

Don't worry about it mate, the TiVo is really easy to use. The majority of people wont worry or need to fiddle with the settings I'm messing with as the box will auto detect your TVs best input.
It's definitely worth getting, and should you not like it (which I very much doubt) then cancel during the cooling off period. Even though i'm not best pleased with the SD picture quality I'd never go back to V+
