In my opinion yes.
Live shows or studio shows aren't bad, dramas which have filmic effect added so they don't look studio shot are softer (as they would be normally).
Again don't let it put you off tivo, it's the best pvr out there and more. Try it for yourself for a week and if you don't like it cancel.
