There is one input (co-axial) and 4 wired outlets (wired Lan) but no Wan\Lan output therefore the only way out of the Superhub (not counting wireless) is via a Lan output which is via the inbuilt router.

Most of the complaints about functionality of the router are from people wanting a by-pass of the Superhub router so as to use their own. Your situation is comparable as you would like the unit as a standalone which in essence is what a lot of people want.
