Seems to me that every time Labour get into power, they spend like crazy and without absolutely any consequence.

Labour lost power at the last election leaving a whopping £159.8 billion record deficit and there is no escaping that this has to be repaid and thus cuts have to be made, unpopular as they can be and will be, they are cutting spending for certain things for a big big reason.
Is there any wonder Brown wanted a buy now, pay later society? With large portions of the electorate eyes off the ball doing just that on a personal level he believed he could get away with it on a national scale and thereby secure his place at the head of the trough for the forseeable future. It was events in the US that prematurely brought his house of cards down around our ears and laid bare the pathetic reality of his so called 'prudence'. 'Prudence' we're starting to appreciated the true cost of!

No matter what the Lib-Cons get up to during their tenure they're not the ones to blame for the mess we're in although they do share a degree of culpability, namely their abject failure to form an effective opposition. Had they done this we might just have had the good fortune to rid ourselves of New Labour before they'd had time to bleed us dry.....
