Is this true and not English hype? The state of Football in England during that period was both technically and tactically behind that of a lot of European and South American countries. It was considered relatively poor quality.

Maybe it's simply because of the broadcasting and fame I guess.

Anyway the FA Cup will probably never recover that spark, the closest rival we have to the Superbowl is the Champions League Final. It's already the 2nd biggest regular sporting event in the world, in terms of TV Coverage, and UEFA are obviously gunning for first spot. Hence the move to a Saturday evening..
