Indeed it's potentially bad news for all pay operators including VM across europe. Will this affect more than just football, what about films? Will we be able to get cheaper movies and can our existing pay services.

But I have read many interesting articles saying there are ways broadcasters can get around this in the long term. More and more satellites are coming online with strictly targetted spotbeams making it extremely difficult to receive foreign broadcasts with all but the biggest dishes. Astra 2D which is widely used for FTA broadcasting to the UK is a case in point. My brother cannot get a reliable BBC signal in Germany even on 1 metre dish.

Sky, ESPN, Canal+ and the likes won't take this lying down, no chance. One commentator said subs could actually go through the roof if broadcasters have to buy european wide rights as opposed to domestic rights. We might be getting excited too early!
