After all I had to pay the install fee for the V+, so would like to think I will be able to keep it.
If I am able to do this, is it likely to be a higher monthly fee than just having a Tivo and a V box?

Yes you can do that, or you can call up and get a V HD box right now to replace the Samsung for a one off delivery fee with no activation charge as you are on VIP
