That is exactly my point. As I mentioned just a short while ago, the reason we can't deport him is due to his human rights (he has no home country as his Egyptian citizenship has been revoked, according to the ECHR). This is because we come under the jurisdiction of the ECHR.
We gave away our sovereignty; it wasn't taken by force.
Therefore the way I see it, the status quo is of our own making.
We're reaping the seeds we've sown.
Mind you, we never had a referendum on the EU so I don't believe it's entirely fair to blame the British people for this situation. Given the rather limited democracy that we have.
However, we could shout a bit louder when the government's actions go against what is publicly perceived be for the better good of the country.
