Unfortunately that is of no use when getting a quote for contents insurance. You're expected to know the value of the items long before claiming.
To take a ridiculous example; say the box was worth £10,000 (yes - I did say it was ridiculous
) and you were robbed. The insurance Co is within it's right to say you were under-insured and either fail to pay out at all, or to pay only a proportion of the claim, a bit of a bummer if you lost a lot of your own stuff at the same time.
