I'd be staggered if it wasn't exactly the same as the remote used in the US.

I didn't say all Media Centre PCs used IR. Not all do. I dare say some use WiFi, some use RF and some use Bluetooth. However, the bulk of them are likely to use IR as it's the most widely available tech.
