I wonder if it's something stupid where XP is timing out for some reason on the mapping. try running;
net config server /autodisconnect:time
and make the time quite long, see if the behaviour persists. I'm not 100% sure it will fix it, but it's worth a go!!
other than that, i take it the logon batch is held under the domain login script folder and not being pulled from somewhere else?
