Thanks but I need to keep things simple for my girlfriend. She uses the library in day sorted view.

Thanks but see above, I just want to see JPEGS only in the pictures library even if other file types are in the folder the library references.

Maybe I read wrong.

Your RAW files are in a subfolder but your JPEG's are in the main folder?
Put your JPEG's in a subfolder too and create a new Library pointing just to that.
This seems a good way to investigate but just to explain my folder structure properly:

My Pictures\Xmas2009
My Pictures\Tae Kwon Do
etc.

Then in each particular occasion (eg Xmas 2009) I have a RAW folder, a JPEG folder and an edited JPEG folder.

When the picture library views the My Pictures folder as a whole, it displays the RAW files too. I only want to see JPEGS
