no wireless lan should be ruled by its clients, thats bad policy. the access point should be in charge else its attackable from far to many methods
if your looking into this for knowlege be wery of the law and what can happen if you have clients connecting and your running even a open router just for that purpose, best you test it from your pwn systems (own consent to do so etc ,D )

as for learning, if you really want to get a insite into this then use a laptop or pc with a wireless card that can run in master mode, i wouldnt worry about windows shared folders being attacked as there are far better ways into a machine.

id try running something along the lines of karmetasploit on your own systems and you can connect to it and see what it does back to you at same time = more knowledge and legal (be wery if someone else did connect however lol)
