Re: Opening a Wireless Network.

So the router would be on a network connected to various computers, but the network itself is not connected to the internet?

If your wireless is unsecured then anyone in range could find it and connect. What they are able to do after that will depend on the level of security you have set on your router and computers. Ultimately if they are really nasty and have hacking tools you've given them an easy inroad for them to delve into your little secrets...

If you haven't changed any passwords on your router, it will be easy for anyone to mess with it's settings.

If your computers are largely unsecured, you have shared folders and data, it will be easy for someone to access that. Potentially, if the shares are read and write, they could put stuff on your computers quite easily. If your computers allow remote user access then a user could, especially if your user name and password are low, perhaps even run stuff on your PC.

Bottom line, unsecure wireless is asking for trouble.
