The thing is Art, we
can and
do "defend" our own people and our own way of life. Our way of life is long-established and built on freedom. In the face of protests like this it is like throwing pebbles at a 10ft thick castle wall. We defend ourselves by letting them have their fun, then shrugging our shoulders and getting on with life.
Idiot protests like this just bounce off. They aren't going to achieve anything and they aren't going to change anything. The only time we would actually need to take medieval steps like banishing people or hanging them for this sort of thing would be if we were an insecure medieval society, rather than a complex, mature and stable democracy.
