Strange considering the HDD inside the normal V+ is just a standard OEM hard drive (Western Digital Caviar Green).

There's nothing out of the ordinary with the hdds in PVRs, nothing that you can't get in a consumer level unit seeing as you can buy enterprise level hard drives from a huge amount of places. Remember that enterprise level hard drives have performance requirements far in excess of storing video.

There are a couple of ranges that are aimed at PVRs (Seagate DB35 and Maxtor QuickView) but again, they contain nothing that you can't find in other consumer level drives, just the usual temperature and error diagnostics that you'll find in any enterprise level drive, they're just marked up.
