Waiting for the passenger was, apparently, marginally less wasteful of time than opening the hold to find and remove his bag.

I've been been at Schiphol when they announce that 'passenger a.n. other is delaying the flight, report immediately to the gate or we will remove your luggage', but haven't been on an affected 'plane.
