Firstly, advantage wasn't played because the ref did n't signal for it. The gesture for playing is two parallel arms. He never gave it. In that instance Nani handballed it and is not a legitmate goal however you look at it.

Secondly when there was confusion as Gomes obviously was when he looked at the ref, the ref should have clarified what his descision was be it playing advantage or free kick. He just shrugged his.shoulders.

Finally, what benefit did we gain from this mythical advantage? We conceeded. If we were playing advantage then the ref should have brought play back.

It was a complete shambles at reffing. Even if we got the goal diaallowed it doesn't take into account we were plsying for a draw in an open game when this shambles happened it killed the match. Much like the phantom penalty descision did last year.
