It appears from the modem itself and from the manual that what you say is correct i.e. you have to enter an ip address for a remote host; it's a function I've never used for security reasons.

The router itself is basic but performs absolutely wonderfully, I have had no issues at all, I use mine as a wireless access point to feed my Tele & Blu ray player, accessed from my main router a D-Link
