SUCCESS!!!!
I went through the cabeling and tuning via the source menu and managed to get programmes off my V+ onto the DVDhd. Quality wasn't great but this was due to being on LP, changed to HQ and it's great.
Thanks you for you info and patience. Now all I need to do is find the time to transfer 78hrs of programmes onto DVD
