Coordinated Strikes - Illegal or not?

I keep hearing on the news that coordinated strikes are illegal. I can't link to video but here's one in print:

Any co-ordinated strike against the cuts is almost as inconceivable as it would be illegal.
But unions seem quite blatant about threatening coordinated strike action:

Bob Crow says:

Quote:
As well as setting out plans for our own co-ordinated industrial and community action we also send a message of solidarity to our comrades in France, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and elsewhere who are fighting similar cuts to jobs, standards of living and public services,' he added.
