The caveat that should be issued here is that cable service can be quite sensitive to changes in signal levels, and signal levels change with length of cable.

The longer your extension, the more likely it is to result in your box not working. You should therefore use the shortest possible cable run to achieve your extension (and if you buy that cable off ebay don't blame the seller if it doesn't work!).
