I recently read Earth Abides by George R. Stewart.
It deals with the aftermath of a plague that wipes out most of humanity.
Nothing very original there although it might have been in 1949 when it was written.
However it is a great example of the story tellers/writer's art. I have not been so fortunate to enjoy a book so much for ages.
Highly recommended.
