You are a star! I turned off Windows Firewall and nothing happened, still couldn't connect. I then found the McAfee Firewall and turned that off.....and.....BINGO!!!! I quickly turned Windows Firewall back on and I still have internet! So it would appear that the (supplied) McAfee Firewall being on was the issue all along.
I would like to thank everyone for all their help, especially those who ploughed on with reply after reply attempting to help. Thank you all very much.

So, now that things are working, do I need ONLY Windows Firewall when surfing? Just looking in McAfee at the firewall, it appears that on the slider bar for the Security Level that 'Lockdown' was set (the top level that blocks all in and outbound), which I guess was the problem all along?
Should I run McAfee Firewall alongside Windows Firewall with a lower setting? Will this keep me more secure from attacks....but actually allow me to keep surfing?
Cheers again.
