Well most the new boxes have "built in" cardsharing, so I was referring to those rather than needing a seperate cardsharing sub. They're the ones that most people are going to gravitate towards because they're the easiest to use, and also the easiest to block.
The main reason why VM won't be too worried about cardsharing though is because if you're getting into cardsharing it makes MUCH more sense to just get a satellite. Cardsharing on cable is like stealing a skoda when there's a ferrari parked next to it with the keys still in the ignition.
As for cards being able to be linked to cardsharing servers, not really. The cardsharing servers only respond to requests that won't identify the card, you're not going to track a sub by just querying the cardsharing server and it giving up the cards ID numbers, the only requests it responds to are decoding the ECMs to give the control words, which aren't going to give away anything. Any cardsharing client that starts making requests that would reveal the cards identity would be quickly blocked because they're designed not to.
It's no where near as simple as seeing a card being used twice, only the original card will ever be seen on the network, the clients never appear on the network and all the clients ever know is the codewords to descramble the signal. The only way to detect it would be to detect that that card was being used in a 3rd party receiver and prevent them from working outside of authorised stbs. That's the real cat and mouse game, one that Sky have been playing for many many years.
