While it is true that XP (along with other OSes) runs faster with more ram, 768Meg should be more than enough. I've run XP reliably (and quickly) on a lot less ram than that.

300 meg of ram is far too much for a security system to use. I use Avast and it's currently using around 20 meg of RAM. Comodo Firewall appears to be using another 15 or so.
