Remember that the V+ will be trying to upscale any SD picture is you are already watching using the HDMI cable. For a true comparision you need to watch between scart for SD and HDMI for HD.

Note it is not only the picture that may be improved. True HD channels should also get a digital surround sound, although that will only be of use to those who have proper surround sound setups.
