damien you are missing the point of having the Xonar. In theory he has the choice. TBH though unless it was being plugged into a HDMI enabled amp the benefits are wasted and just standard HDMI from the GFX to tv ( depending on if the gfx card has onboard HD audio chipset of course) would suit better and the Xonar disabled
We need to know what Graphics card the system has before we go any further

this appears to be the machine and if so it has ATI 4550 which means it should transport Video and Audio down the HDMI
OP you are plugging HDMI cable into the card and not the onboard GFX?
There is no mention of Xonar in the specs??
