At the moment, the whole outcome of OFCOM's pay tv investigation doesn't appear to benefit TV customers on VM's top 2 tiers: VIP and XL.
- Price decrease for Sky Sports? Nope.
- Price decrease for Sky Movies? Nope.
- Sky Premium HD content? Yes, yours for £7. What? You only want SS1 and SS2 in HD? Yeah, that's still £7. Per box. For 2 HD channels.
- Sky Red Button? Sure, coming soon in 2011.
But, on the bright side, we did launch Five HD today.
I know, I know, free ESPN on XL; TV Choice; Sky Basics HD content free on XL (I hope
) etc etc.
But, the take up of Sky Premium content on Virgin wasn't great before the investigation and I doubt, post-OFCOM ruling, that will be great now for XL/VIP customers.
If anything, won't customers consider
downgrading to take advantage of the cheaper prices for Sky Sports/Movies? I know I am, especially with ESPN only showing 23 EPL games for the next 3 seasons.
Was that Virgin's intention? To encourage VIP/XL customers to downgrade? If so, their mission may almost be accomplished.
Isn't speculation fun?
