One slight annoyance with using a Mac on a Windows network is that Mac OS X creates extra files to store metadata on non-HFS filesystems. I would advise installing
TinkerTool on the Mac and setting the checkbox next to "Don't create hidden .DS_Store files over a network connection" in the attached screenshot.
I'd advise installing TinkerTool anyway as it gives access to loads of hidden preferences which can normally only be accessed from the command line.
