I'm not 100% sure as my experience with modern intels is mainly on laptops.
According to the passmark website there is about a 33% performance increase from the e6550 to the e8400 though this is at stock speeds and yours is quite heavily overclocked. I think You will notice it but Im not sure its worth the £149.99 price tag. Though if you are upgrading to a quad core at least you could call it an investment
