I know you mentioned you need to run PC software, but you could always do that on a Mac with Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop. I run Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro all the time and it performs really well. Any of the Intel Macs (all of them now) will run Windows apps without any problems.
Thanks for that. Had not realised that about the Macs but it's all academic at the moment.

Maybe someone will devise a program that allows you to run the latest Mac OS on a PC!! LOL!!
