Re: Apple's iOS 4 already hacked

The 'hacks' have been available for iOS4 since before iOS4 was even conceived.

The guys that broke the original iPhone OS spent weeks/months going through it and finding all the vulnerabilities that they could. They didn't disclose all of them, and then used the undisclosed ones that Apple didn't fix so that they could break OS2 and find the additional vulnerabilities in it. They've continued in that fashion, and so already new how to break iOS4 in a number of different ways before Apple even released it.

The main problem here is that the iPhone security model is fundamentally flawed - Apple could fix it, but to do so would remove a great big chunk of the user functionality that we've come to know and love. They'd also lose a massive customer base, those people that 'jailbreak' their iPhones still have to buy them initially - Apple won't want to give up that revenue stream, and the wider interest that it generates for their products.
