Newer versions of Firefox (and no doubt other browsers) have tightened up security so scripts running in one browser window, tab or even frame cannot access the contents of others that come from different domains, or even other parts of your computer, unless you change hidden security settings. Bloody annoying when you've created a user-friendly intranet site only to find your clever functions no longer work, I can tell you!
