Whatever you think of Sky I'm not sure why they would do this. The value of the channels is in the brand and the viewers. If Sky wanted to programs to put on Sky 1 they could have just bid for them in the first place.

If Sky 'asset strip' they channels then they are making their own purchase worthless
I wouldn't be so sure. It's not as if Sky haven't purchased the competition just to asset strip and close it down before..
