In between the connection failures today I've been testing having reverted back to POP3 methodology, and have I think now got it working exactly as you had it working and as I did before the migration, as follows:
- POP tuned on in the settings within webmail. Actions set to delete the Virginmail copy after a POP connection.
- Use recent:name@ntlworld.com as the username in iPhone client and Outlook
- In the iPhone advanced email settings set the option to "never delete" from the server. This does seem to over-ride the server setting.
- In Outlook, don't tick the box to leave a copy on the server.
This means that if you connect via the phone any new mails since your last Outlook connection will be delivered to the phone, and then to Outlook when you next connect that way.
Outlook connections do cause the mails to be "deleted" (well, moved to the bin on webmail from where they will be deleted in 30 days). So any new mails picked up for the first time via Outlook won't be delivered to the phone.
That's what seems to be happening anyway, and it's exactly how I like it.
I think Outlook works more smoothly using POP (had a few crashes when moving between folders using IMAP mode) so I'm happy now.
Can I give back 6GB of my 7GB server space and have a price reduction please?
