How to get past region restrictions when playing DVDs in Windows Vista

Evening all ...

I have a friend who wants to play region 1 DVDs in her Windows Vista laptop. She knows nowt about finding and downloading software for the thing ... it's just got whatever basic Microsoft stuff it came with. And as you all know I'm a Mac bod so I'm not much use advising her.

Can someone recommend a good DVD player program for Vista that allows you to play any region? Or is there a way to globally bypass region settings in Vista itself?

TIA!
