That was nonsense. I think every time Alex Curran was spotted afterwards, she had her ring on.

The latest rumours are that he had lost the dressing room and that senior players would leave if he stayed. Judging by some of the reactions of Gerrard and Torres at some of the subs last year, I find this readily believable. So maybe sacking him saved them from leaving.

There isn't a large amount of top-level, Premiership-suitable managers about. Hiddink has signed a new contract with Turkey. Mourinho has gone to Real Madrid. Van Gaal might be one. Hodgson is probably beneath where they are looking at.

McAteer did say it right though. Employing Dalgish as an intrim manager is a backward step. They need a long-term manager with the vision and support behind him.
