D'oh!!! YES - got it. Didn't change the dropdown box to SSL - I hadn't seen that option in the box. Once I did that all is well

Ooh, and thanks for the note about the SPA being unticked both now and later. It's ticked in my 'gmail' settings so I assumed that was one of the new things we'd need to have checked.
