Do you have a link to the guide you used?
Regardless of how you installed it though you should still be able to remove it by opening Synaptic and looking in there for it. Try pressing the origin button, then looking in Local, local/main and Local/non-free for anything you`ve installed from outside the repo`s.
If you added any third party repo/ppa to install Amarok
from then removing that from your software sources list then reloading everything before installing the version that`s actually in the repositories is the way to go.
