The Personal Package Archive service is a part of launchpad that basically allows you to distribute software directly to the users, which they can then download & try at their own risk after adding the relevant ppa to their sources list.

Assuming Ubuntu 10.04.....If you installed 2.3.0 from the package manager you`ll obviously get updates as & when they come down but if you`re a little less patient and cant wait for some CoverBling then you could go download the Dark Star from the Amarok site i suppose.
I dont actually use Amarok myself but i think i`ve seen more people wanting to know how to downgrade it back to the 1.4* builds because they`re not too happy with the complete rewrite it had.
