Really only takes 1 hr?

Well on the screen it says this

" Sorry to interupt your viewing

Were currently updating your service, so please
dont switch off your ntl box

This will only take a short time "

and on the STB it has " Tune " on it and this has been like this for over 9hrs now i was gonna switch the box off but i dont want to muck it up

The STB down stairs which is the main one as im in my bedroom so ive got 2nd box but the one down stairs is the same and yes i thought the cable tv goes on straight away or 1hr but 9hrs this is just stupid
so is it safe to turn off box then turn on again even if it says dont turn off box?
