My main point still stands though, set them a task, evaluate them on how well they've done, what could have been done differently etc. Sure it may take a little of the companies time, but at least there's proof that the person doesn't just have a bit of paper, or, as the case may be, doesn't, but that they do have the necessary expertise to get the job done correctly.
I've seen many many people whose skill level within a certain field i would consider to be incredibly high, yet without these bits of paper, they're worthless in the eyes of any company.
But isn't that the whole point of this thread? He hadn't been through that assessment yet and was the reason why couldn't carry out certain tasks.
