It seems to me that Sainsbury's has certain training procedures in place and their insurance company insist that these are adhered to. If this person had only been employed by them for a short time, it is entirely possible that he had not been given the opportunity to attend the relevant training session. It is also possible that he does not have any formal qualifications and has been working in the family business for those thirty years, without going to college and for some reason has ended up working for a supermarket.
