In the first one thay said something about a crack in time.

In the second at the end with the space whale there was a "crack" on the side of the ship.

I reckon that it might get bigger or smaller, I say that as it might adjust in size depending on where in time The Doctor is.

In the first episode, it was also on the monitor in the Tardis.
