I think that's their problem there. Targeting kids and young teenagers. These are the sort of people who will use something just because their friends use it, thus making it the next big thing. They will, if necessary, pressure their parents to spend a lot of money on it.

Of course, the problem is that they soon move on to the next next big thing, and forget about the original. To some extent, I think that MySpace is suffering from the same thing.

Facebook hasn't suffered that because while it was (for a while) the next big thing for teenagers, older people have actually started to use it as a communications platform.
