This seemed to do the trick, and the laptop now connects fine.

The only issue I had initially was that little scrote had hacked into my new router and changed the passphrase etc so I couldnt connect wirelessly anymore.

So in effect it did me a favour because I did a hard rest of the router and then chose to uninstall the Linksys wireless manager software.
