If you can ping via DNS names (as Kymmy said) then its not DNS.

Didn't think of flushing the DNS at the time, good shout - will try that.
As aI said before I can ping the name etc and it all resolves correctly.
I'm sure it must be some kind of ISP issue - the subscriber has phoned Orange Broadband and they are looking into it.
I have a hunch it will magicaly start working again at some point...

Flushed DNS - no change - can ping
www.bbc.co.uk and trace route gives a full response, but when browsing to
www.bbc.co.uk it never connects - same for any other site, and Kaspersky is complaing that it's DB is out of date becuase it cannot update.
Looking more like an ISP issue - it's acting as if they have been put into a walled garden - and I've asked if the bill has been paid - it has!
