You missed out the bit where amount of experience comes into it. Should a woman with only a month's experience be paid the same as a man with 10 years experience? IIRC there has been a recent ruling that time spent
not doing the job counts as experience gained doing the job, of course this only applies to women, which is the reason it applies in the first place.
The 'equality' only goes in one direction. The comparison will only be made to raise female wages to meet male wages, but not to raise male wages to meet female wages.
