Now that is excellent news

If unsurprising. Gordon has, rather cleverly, appeared to use the whole Blair smokescreen to get his own nonentity, Baroness Ashton, into the foreign affairs role. It was a stitch up, as expected - the dominent Right got a Christian right-winger in as President, the largest Left group got one of theirs into the High Commissioner role.
Incidentally, all of this does go to show how silly the whole 'bye bye UK' stuff about Lisbon was - what's happened is exactly what always happens in international diplomacy, the big boys carve it up between them and do deals behind closed doors. The trick is to remain one of the big boys, if you're a realist.
